.thing is a voice companion and interview practice tool made by Abiola Apooyin. This page explains, in plain words, what happens to what you say and share.

The short version

Your voice

.thing asks your browser for the microphone. Turning your speech into text is done by your browser's built-in speech service: Chrome and Edge send the audio to Google or Microsoft, and Safari sends it to Apple. .thing doesn't record or keep your audio.

The sphere's movement is worked out on your device from the sound level and never leaves it.

What's sent to the AI service

To write replies, run interviews and give feedback, .thing sends the text of the conversation to local service. In interview mode that includes your resume and the job description you provide. Natural voices are also created by local service from the text of each reply.

If .thing uses a key server, it only passes requests to Google and back. It doesn't store what you say.

What's saved on your device

None of this is sent to Abiola or anyone else. It stays until you remove it.

Deleting your data

Feedback is practice, not a judgment

Scores and feedback are produced by AI to help you practise. They can be wrong, and they don't reflect how any real employer will assess you.
